India retail inflation grew to five month high in December 2021 to 5.59%

Data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme showed the benchmark inflation rate, Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 5.59% in December 2021 which is up from 4.59% in December 2020.

A survey by Reuters forecasted CPI at 5.80%.

In the month of November, CPI stood at 4.91% Y-o-Y, up from 4.48% in the month of October 2021.

Fuel Inflation moderated to 10.95% Y-o-Y from 13.35% in November 2021, which was 14.35% in October 2021. Food and beverages inflation came at 4.47%, up from 1.87% in November 2021. The inflation data for last six month remained within the tolerance level of 2-6% set by the Reserve Bank of India.
