India’s Factory Output Dragged to Four-month Low in January 2022

Updated: Feb 16

Data compiled by IHS Markit showed Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index slowing to a four month low in January to 54.0 from December's 55.5. Reuter’s poll of economists expected a reading of 54.6.

The new orders sub-index slowed to 56.6 in January from December's 58.4, which is lowest since September.

While the data show a slight slowdown in factory activity due to Omicron variant of covid-19, the impact is less compared to the Delta variant.

Pollyanna De Lima, director at IHS Markit said, inflationary pressures and escalation pandemic restriction will likely hamper production growth in the coming months.
